Admissions Requirements

To be accepted to this program, you must have:

Completed application
3.3 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale
Prerequisite Coursework:

Applicants must have completed 45-60 credits of college-level coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.

Prerequisite courses that should be completed prior to admission include the General Education courses (and credits) listed below below (students who are missing one or two of these courses may be admitted but must complete them at another college or university and transfer them in to GW before they will be able to graduate from GW):               

6 credits in English composition
3 credits in college mathematics (college algebra, statistics, or above)
3 to 4 credits in natural or physical science with a lab
6 credits in social sciences
3 credits in humanities
A written personal statement: Please include a 250–500 word essay describing your reasons for undertaking study at the George Washington University and your academic objectives, career goals, and related qualifications including collegiate, professional, and community activities, relevant to your program of interest. Include any substantial accomplishments not already mentioned on the application form.
Resume/CV
Application fee: A non-refundable application fee of $80 is required. The application fee is waived for active-duty U.S. military, current GW students, degree-holding GW alumni, current McNair Program Scholars, and graduates of minority-serving institutions (MSI).
Two letters of recommendation from a previous instructor or employer
Official transcripts from every college and university attended. All non-U.S. transcripts (including those in English) must be evaluated by an accredited foreign credential agency. Please find the list of member organizations here: https://www.naces.org/members.

If you have an Associate’s degree from a participating D.C., Maryland, or Virginia community college, you may be eligible for guaranteed admission to this program. Review the list of participating institutions or complete this form to speak with an online admissions advisor for more details.

International Students

This program is not visa eligible. Permanent residents or those with a valid visa (e.g., work) may apply to perform their rotation in the US. International students may apply without a visa if they have an approved clinical site in their geographic region.

Applicants who are not U.S. citizens are also required to submit official test scores for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Pearson’s Test of English (PTE) Academics, or the academic International English Language Test System (IELTS). The following are the minimum scores for admission consideration:

  • TOEFL: 600 on paper-based or 100 on Internet-based. GW’s school code for the TOEFL is 5246.
  • PTE: overall score of 68
  • IELTS: overall band score of 7.0, with no individual band score below 6.0

International applicants may be considered for admission without submitting the above scores if:

  • You are a citizen of a country where English is the official language
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree from a country where English is the official language and language of instruction
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. regional accrediting agency
